Register with the nearest U.S. Embassy when you land in Syria.
Avoid visiting Israel or Iraq prior to entering Syria. The Syrian government will not allow you to enter if your passport contains entry stamps from either of these countries.
Damascus hospitals are capable of handling minor medical issues. However, for more serious medical problems, you will need to be airlifted to a western medical facility.
