Things You'll Need:
- A valid passport from your nation of origin
- A computer with Internet access in order to book reservations online
-
Step 1
Eat at any number of cheap restaurants in town. Being a university city, Oxford has plenty of inexpensive alternatives designed to help keep students' budgets in check, with terrific meals available for very few dollars.
-
Step 2
Visit the world famous Bodleian Library while you're in Oxford. It's the oldest library in Europe, and is noted for its incredible architectural beauty.
-
Step 1
Fly to London's Heathrow Airport or Gatwick to reach Oxford. The airport in Oxford is small and handles only private traffic.
-
Step 2
Fly into Birmingham International Airport as an alternative to London's Heathrow, but be aware that flights are far less frequent and often more expensive.
-
Step 3
Take the train from London. The fare is cheap, only about $20, and the trip takes a little under an hour depending on the time of day.
-
Step 4
Rent a car to get to Oxford from London. It's a relatively short trip by auto.
-
Step 1
To book accommodations, contact Oxford Tourist Information Centre at 011 (+44) 01865 726871 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Book accommodations in any of the local hotels to find cheap prices. Oxford hosts many conferences associated with the university there, so the town offers a lot of affordable lodging to people staying only a night or two. Mid-range accommodations can often be had for somewhat less than $100 a night.
-
Step 3
Stay in London. If you have cheap accommodations in London, you may consider making a day trip to Oxford rather than spending the night. The city is only about 50 miles west of London.
-
Step 4
Choose your location. Oxford is located along two rivers, the Thames and the Cherwell. Decide if you want to stay near the water or elsewhere in the city.
