Find Cheap Hotels in London

London is one of the oldest and most historically important cities in the world, but don't let that fool you. London has a youthful heart with plenty of sights to see and entertainment to enjoy day or night. Here is how to book cheap accommodations in London.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A valid passport from your nation of origin
  • A computer with Internet access in order to book reservations online

    Know Your Destination

  1. Step 1

Know that London is the capital of England and the center of the United Kingdom. It sits upon the Thames River, a few miles inland from the eastern shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

  2. Step 2

Know that it costs more to visit London during the summertime. Prices can go up dramatically at popular hotels throughout the city. Also, hotels are typically far more crowded during the summer.

  3. Plan Your Transportation

  4. Step 1

Fly into Heathrow Airport. Heathrow is the busiest airport in England and one of the best ways to arrive in the country from international points of origin.

  5. Step 2

Arrive in England via the Channel Tunnel. The trip is relatively comparable in price to and often less than a flight from mainland Europe.

  6. Step 3

Take the train from the coast when traveling from France via the Channel Tunnel. The trip is pretty inexpensive and takes about an hour from Dover.

  7. Find Accommodations

  8. Step 1

Look for accommodations further from the Thames and the royal courts. Outlying accommodations tend to be cheap in comparison to those closer to the center of the city and they have more vacancies during peak travel seasons.

  9. Step 2

Book accommodations in a youth hostel to save a fortune on accommodations in London. England is dotted with hostels throughout the country, too, making it easy for you to move from city to city without breaking the bank. Prices are almost always well under $100 per night.

  10. Step 3

Find cheap accommodations by neighborhood to stay in a specific area while in London, but book early. It is possible to stay in neighborhoods with higher demand by making reservations early or by visiting outside of peak travel season.

Tips & Warnings
  • Visitors to England from Western nations don't usually need visas for short visits. Visitors from other areas should check visa requirements before traveling.
  • Don't go to the airport without finding out what items are prohibited on flights to the United Kingdom. Security measures have been stepped up in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and regulations can change quickly.

on 6/6/2007 There is something seriously wrong with the person who wrote this page's geography.
It is the River Thames and is a lot more than "a few miles" from the Atlantic Ocean. More like 300 miles.
