Know Your Destination
Step1
Head out to the snow-capped Mount Ashland in the winter for skiing, or visit the Pacific Crest Trail for breathtaking walks.
Step2
Research Ashland's independent restaurants and cafes. In the same city that banned styrofoam, Ashland's business district, running southwest along Main Street, forbids chain restaurants or stores in the area.
Step3
Travel through Ashland in the winter and expect average temperatures from the mid-30s to the mid-40s with mostly clear days.
Organize Transportation
Step1
Board a Greyhound bus; the bus station is only one mile north of downtown.
Step2
Ride for the cheapest price--free--on the Rogue Valley Transportation buses as long as you stay within the Ashland city limits.
Choose Accommodations
Step1
To book accommodations, contact Go-Oregon.net at (800) 547-7842 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Reserve your room in one of the 20-plus bed and breakfast inns throughout Ashland that serve up delicious food and provide advice on things to see and do.
Step3
Visit during the summer and enjoy temperatures from the 60s to the 80s, with typically six weeks of temperatures reaching 90 degrees Farenheit.
Step4
Check with your hotel about cheap or courtesy shuttles from the Medford International Airport, located only 15 miles north of Ashland.
Step5
Prepare to take advantage of the cheap accommodations at the youth hostel near downtown (at 150 N. Main Street). Prices range between $25 and $55 a night.
Be Familiar with Local Information
Step1
Take in a play at the famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The festival begins every February and lasts until October, with close to 100,000 people attending.
Step2
Explore outdoor activities at 100-acre Lithia Park, which has miles of hiking trails, a Japanese garden, two ponds and tennis courts.
Step3
Indulge your sweet tooth at the Oregon Chocolate Festival in March at the Ashland Springs Hotel. Enjoy scrumptious chocolate bars, chocolate-covered toffees and other exotic chocolate treats.

on 4/6/2008 I would love to share some information about a home I am staying at in the Ashland area right now. It's in the little town of Phoenix about 15 minutes from Ashland. Bernie Weigand, owns a home that has four bedrooms she rents (one of them can hold at least three people) for very reasonable prices. You also have the full use of the house while staying at Bernie's. It's quiet, has a great garden, right now I'm enjoying all of her bulbs that are blooming, close to Ashland and the Shakespeare Festival, Jacksonville, Britt Festival, Medford and is very affordable. I call it my retreat. I am here for awhile as my sister is having a battle with cancer, actually in this same town of Phoenix. Right now, I have one other room-mate who is a traveling nurse and who has a contract with a Medford hospital until June.
Bernie supplies your basics, bedding, soap, paper goods, materials for show
