Grenada is a mountainous island in the Caribbean, replete with fragrant trees, tropical flowers, waterfalls, lakes and white sandy beaches. The people of Grenada are extremely friendly, and the island has a relaxed, easy vibe.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Know Your Destination

Step1
Visit one of the gems of the Caribbean! St. George's is the capital of Grenada, and is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Caribbean, with a position on a picturesque natural harbor.
Step2
Pack light. The climate is tropical and hot, with occasional strong winds. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
Step3
Check your encyclopedia. Despite its long history of British Rule, Grenada's French heritage is readily seen in its architecture, names of places and predominant Catholicism.
Step4
Communicate easily with the locals, as English is the official language of Grenada.

Select Your Transportation

Step1
Hold on tight! Minivan buses are the best (and often most hair-raising!) way to get around the island, but most stop running in the early evening and don't run on Sundays.
Step2
Drive on the left if you do rent a car from one of the rental agencies, and remember they also require the purchase of a local driving license.

Find Hotels and Accommodations

Step1
To book accommodations, contact The Grenada Board of Tourism at (800) 927-9554 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Live au naturel. Grenada also features many boutique hotels and accommodations with open-style cottages facing the beach.
Step3
Treat yourself by staying in one of Grenada's 4-star all-inclusive resorts.
Step4
Make yourself at home. Grenada offers many small guest houses as accommodations; most have under ten rooms with multiple beds in each.

Visit Tourist Attractions

Step1
Bring your hiking boots. Grenada has many outdoor places to explore, including the Grand Etang Lake and Forest Reserve, which features a rugged terrain and a variety of flora and fauna. The Grand Etang Lake is in the crater of one of the island's extinct volcanoes and surrounded by rain forest.
Step2
Enjoy La Sagesse Nature Centre, a superb estuary complete with a salt pond which attracts a stunning variety of bird species.
Step3
Visit Carenage to experience small town Caribbean charm. This pretty little town features a plethora of shops, restaurants and bars.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bring a strong sunscreen. Sunburns can occur here quickly and severely.
  • Cover up! Although appropriate in many of the beach-front accommodations, bathing suits and short shorts should not be worn in the streets or in shops.
  • Drink bottled water. Avoid tap water unless it has been treated and eat fresh produce only after it has been cooked or peeled.
