Go outside. Colorado Springs boasts up to 300 days of sunshine a year, with very little precipitation. The climate is temperate, and there are a large number of outdoor attractions like Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods and Cave of the Winds.

Breathe deeply. Colorado Springs is a mile above sea level, with thin but generally clean mountain air. Give yourself some time to adjust to the altitude and low humidity.

Choose attractions and activities. Colorado Springs advertises more than 50 attractions, and is a good place for sports activities like river rafting, horseback riding, biking or hiking. Your hotel concierge will be able to advise you as to the seasonal availability of your preferred activities.

Drive to Colorado Springs. You can get to Colorado Springs via I-25 or U.S. Highway 24. It takes about an hour to drive to Colorado Springs from Denver.

Prepare for traffic once you've arrived. Although Colorado Springs has city buses, most people drive and it shows. Colorado Springs has over 300,000 residents and lots of visitors, so don't expect small town driving convenience.

Choose the type of accommodations you prefer. The basic types of accommodations you'll find in Colorado Springs are: hotels, bed and breakfast inns, vacation homes, RV parks and campgrounds, plus ranches, lodges and cabins.

Choose a hotel or motel for modern conveniences. Hotel accommodations range from four-star luxury hotels at hundreds of dollars a night to budget motels for well under a hundred dollars a night. Hotels and motels are located throughout the city, and major chains are represented.

Rent a vacation home. Rentals by owner are available, as are accommodations at commercially owned lodges.

Camp out. There are more than a dozen campgrounds and RV parks in the area, including one at Garden of the Gods.
