Every girl dreams about her wedding, from the dress and the flowers to the groom and the guests. The location of the ceremony is just as important. From beaches and backyards to chapels and cathedrals, there are many things to consider when you select a wedding location. Here are a few pointers in the right direction.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Set a date. All of your choices for your ceremony and reception depend on the date you choose.
Step2
Write out a preliminary guest list, including out-of-town family and friends and other guests most likely to attend. Be sure to allow for guests that may bring a date.
Step3
Estimate the size of your guest list. This will help you determine whether or not you need a spacious cathedral or a cozy chapel.
Step4
Determine your budget. Know what you can comfortably afford to spend on the venue for your ceremony and reception.
Step5
Choose the style and atmosphere. Narrow down your choices based on the look and feel you want incorporated into the ceremony.
Step6
View the locations that best fit your needs. Speak with the management and staff at each location, asking questions and building a rapport with the individuals who would be assisting you on your special day.
Step7
Ask about catering and food services available at the different locations. If you plan to supply the food yourself, be sure to ask if that is an option.
Step8
Make your decision and book your location. Try to book your location at least one year in advance of your wedding date.

Tips & Warnings

  • When choosing an expensive venue, save money by shortening your guest list.
  • If either the bride or the groom is an active member of one particular religion, consider speaking to the home church about holding the ceremony there. There may be reduced fees for performing the services for a church member.
  • If choosing an outdoor venue, make sure to choose an indoor backup if there is a chance of undesirable weather.
  • Remember, some religions will not recognize your union if the ceremony is not performed in a church.
  • Don’t wait till the last minute to book your location. Many locations will book one year in advance.
