How to Decide on a Podcast Topic

Are you looking for a way to spice up your blog? Have you heard that podcasting is a great way to increase sales for your business? Or do you just want to explore something new to see where it takes you? Regardless of your motivation, once you decide to set up a regular podcast, you need to choose a topic. How do you do that?

Instructions

1. Decide what you hope to accomplish with your podcast: Do you want a new way to communicate with friends, share hobbies or give advice? Or do you want your podcast to be business related-a way of bringing in new customers or encouraging additional sales to customers you already have?

2. Look at the market for your podcast: How many people do you hope to reach? How much competition will you have?

3. Take stock of your hobbies and interests: What do you like talking about? What job would you take on even if you wouldn't get paid for doing it? What do your friends always come to you for advice about?

4. Look at the lists (what you hope to accomplish, who you're hoping to reach and your hobbies and interests) to determine where there is an overlap. Narrow down your possible topics based on which ideas will help you reach the most goals.

5. Consider each of the topics on your narrowed-down list: Which will best help you reach your goals? Which topics do you have the most to say about?

6. Decide on a topic for your podcast.

• Choose a topic that you know well.

• Choose a topic that you enjoy talking about and that you will be able to stick with over time.

• Don't choose a topic that you know little about just because you think it will help you reach a financial goal. If you aren't interested in the topic or you convey the wrong information, your podcast won't succeed.
