You've decided that you want to join in with the people who podcast. You've figured out what you want to accomplish—whether it's to get more business or just let your friends know what you're up to. You've figured out what you're going to talk about. You know where you're going to host your podcast. Now you've got one more thing that you really need to figure out: How often will you publish updates?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Consider how much time you have to devote to your podcast: If your time is limited by other obligations, you may not be able to publish often. Remember that you will need time to write, record, edit and publish each podcast.
Step2
Consider the length of your podcast: If your podcasts are typically under 30 minutes in length, you may want to publish more often than if your podcasts are 1 hour or longer.
Step3
Consider the content you have available or are able to produce: If you can produce material for a half-hour show every week, then plan to publish that show once per week.
Step4
Consider the topic of your podcast: If your purpose is to keep your subscribers on top of hot new tips as they become available, you don't want to wait until the end of the week when they'll have already found out about them elsewhere.
Step5
Consider what your subscribers expect: Do they anticipate daily updates? Do other podcasters in your niche publish on a certain schedule that you should match? Ask your subscribers about their expectations if you do not know.
Step6
Look at the time you have, your podcast itself and your audience and determine the most appropriate schedule.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is no standard for frequency when it comes to podcast publishing. Some people publish daily, others weekly, others monthly...and still others will publish once and never again.
  • If you are planning to change the frequency of your podcast after it has been established, let your subscribers know ahead of time.
  • Publish your podcast when you have something to say.
  • Don't go overboard. Even though you are publishing your podcast for a specific reason, you should enjoy it, not dread having to publish another one.
