How to Can Peaches

What do you do with fresh fruit on trees? Do you like canned fruit when the fruit is not in season? Peaches can be preserved for out-of-season eating. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Peaches
  • Canning Jars
  • Dome Lids and Bands
  • Large Pan
  • Canner
  • Measuring Cup
  • Sugar

Instructions

    • 1

      When peaches are ripe, they are ready to preserve.

      Boil water. Pour water over peaches.

    • 3

      Let peaches stand in hot water until skin can be removed easily. Remove skin.

      After skin has been removed from the peach, cut peach in half and remove pit.

    • 5

      Make syrup that consists of 3 cups water and 1 cup sugar in a large pan. Bring to a boil.

      Add peaches. Bring to a boil. Boil 2-3 minutes.

      Meanwhile, put canning jars upside down in water including the dome lids, put on a burner, and heat to make the jars and lids sterile.

      Put peaches in a hot canning jar filling the jar up to the "neck" of the jar. Cover the peaches with syrup.

      Put a new dome lid on the jar and screw on a band.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dome lid must pop in order for jar to seal.

  • Let jars stand at room temperature until cool.

  • Bands need not be kept on jars after jars have cooled.

  • Store filled jars in a cool place.
