What do you do with fresh fruit on trees? Do you like canned fruit when the fruit is not in season? Peaches can be preserved for out-of-season eating.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Peaches
  • Canning Jars
  • Dome Lids and Bands
  • Large Pan
  • Canner
  • Measuring Cup
  • Sugar
  • Water
  1. Step 1

When peaches are ripe, they are ready to preserve.

  2. Step 2

Boil water. Pour water over peaches.

  3. Step 3

Let peaches stand in hot water until skin can be removed easily. Remove skin.

  4. Step 4

After skin has been removed from the peach, cut peach in half and remove pit.

  5. Step 5

Make syrup that consists of 3 cups water and 1 cup sugar in a large pan. Bring to a boil.

  6. Step 6

Add peaches. Bring to a boil. Boil 2-3 minutes.

  7. Step 7

Meanwhile, put canning jars upside down in water including the dome lids, put on a burner, and heat to make the jars and lids sterile.

  8. Step 8

Put peaches in a hot canning jar filling the jar up to the "neck" of the jar. Cover the peaches with syrup.

  9. Step 9

Put a new dome lid on the jar and screw on a band.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dome lid must pop in order for jar to seal.
  • Let jars stand at room temperature until cool.
  • Bands need not be kept on jars after jars have cooled.
  • Store filled jars in a cool place.
