No other race has the potential that the Necrons have to completely roll over an enemy and crush them so thoroughly! Embrace the dark secrets of the Necrons!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War

Step1
Use Necron Warriors with wild abandon! These are some of the toughest starting units in the game. They have an excellent ranged attack as well as a decent melee attack. They are very strong and can get back up if your enemy knocks them down! Build a couple of squads at the very least to defend your base.
Step2
Replace some of your Necron Warriors with Immortals. They are bigger, tougher, have better guns and they live longer. The catch is that they are more expensive, their unit size is smaller and they are only effective against vehicles and buildings.
Step3
Use Flayed Ones and Wraiths as your melee units. Apart from the Necron Lord, these units are some of the nastiest in close combat. The Wraith can also hide itself by Phase Shifting and the Flayed Ones...well, any soldier that drapes itself with the skins of its enemies HAS to be tough!
Step4
Bring in a Pariah squad to help assault strong points. Another powerful assault unit, the Pariah not only looks strange and strong, it is! Its scythe sweeps away scores of enemies, so bring it to the party!
Step5
Use Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers and Lord Destroyers as mobile fire support. All of these units carry heavy weapons and move around on hover skirts, making them surprisingly fast considering the speed of the rest of the Necrons. They are expensive, so use them with care.
Step6
Awaken your Monolith for added support. This takes a long time and is quite expensive, but the Monolith is one of the only mobile buildings and is also one of the most powerful. Protect it at all costs!
Step7
Build lots of Scarabs! Unlike in other races, your builder units are also used to capture strategic and critical locations. Make sure you build lots and reinforce them fully!
Step8
Create Tomb Spiders to help recover your lost units. Using Tomb Spiders, your Necron squads can actually reinforce past their normal squad limit! Recycling DOES pay off!
Step9
Build as many Plasma Generators as you can! The Necrons operate solely on power; they do not need requisition. Therefore, it is critically important to build lots of power generators! Also note that as you build more, your Plasma Generators get more and more expensive.
Step10
Summon the Nightbringer! This living embodiment of a god is summoned through your Necron Lord. The Nightbringer is a frightening sight, is extremely powerful and carries a weapon that puts the Bloodthirster to shame!

on 1/22/2008 The Necrons could be described as a Turtler, as they take a long time to build up, but once they are, they are nearly unstoppable. one good tactic is to upgrade your monolith fully, have loads of Warrior and Flayed One squads, then teleport your monolith into the middle of the enemy base closely followed by your lord (with nightbringer ability) and bring your warriors over using their ability that let's them teleport to necron buildings and summon the flayed ones with your monolith. causes the very best of Havoc.

on 6/9/2007 Very good article! Just as a note, the basic Necron unit is resource free and is capped only by the population limit. So in tight spots, it may be possible to keep building the basic unit and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

One additional note on the Necron Lord abilities is the resurrection ability that can be researched. In an area containing numerous Necron corpses, it is possible to use this ability to resurrect so many Necron units that you are considerably over the population cap.
