  • Computer with Internet access for making reservations

Know Bohemia and the Czech Republic Before You Go

Step1
Pack a phrase book if you plan to leave Prague. Most of the friendly locals throughout the Bohemian countryside only speak Czech.

Organize Transportation

Step1
Fly into Prague. The Prague Airport is serviced by several major airlines and offers easy access to accommodations across Bohemia.
Step2
Take public transportation throughout Prague. The subways are safe, reliable, and easy to navigate.
Step3
Catch a train out of the city. A prepaid card allows for exploration on the Czech Railways.

Choose Your Lodging

Step1
To book accommodations, contact Bolivia Vice-Ministry of Tourism at 011 (+59) 12 2334849 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Sleep in a castle. Stay at a historical castle hotel in the Bohemian and be treated like a king.
Step3
Enjoy a beer at one of the more than 100 breweries located throughout the Czech Republic and then stay the night. Many traditional breweries now offer overnight accommodations to their guests.
Step4
Stay on the banks of the Vltava River in Prague. There are several hotels in all price ranges offering beautiful views of the longest Czech river.

Familiarize Yourself with Bohemia

Step1
Enjoy a spa day in the Western Bohemian towns of Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne and Frantiskovy Lazne. You don't have to stay at the spa to enjoy its services.
Step2
Dance a polka. The Czech Republic is the birthplace of the Bohemian Polka, a popular form of folk music. Many inns will feature a polka band in their restaurant.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visitors are required to have health insurance to travel to the Czech Republic.
  • While it is easy to spend your entire trip in Prague, avoid the crowds by leaving the city and seeing the rest of Bohemia.
  • Avoid referring to the area as Eastern Europe. The Czech Republic has earned the separation from Communism and the Cold War, thus the area is properly called Central Europe.
  • Exchanging your money on the streets is dangerous. Stick to a money exchange or ATM to change your money to Czech Crowns, or Koruna.
