Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access

Know Your Destination

Step1
Pack appropriately. Augusta's climate is conducive to year-round tourism. The summers are hot with mean temperatures in July at 80.8 degrees F, and the winters are mild, with mean temperatures in January at 44.8 degrees F.
Step2
Learn a little history. Augusta was once the capital of Georgia from 1785 to 1795.
Step3
Immerse yourself in American history. President Woodrow Wilson was raised in Augusta.

Getting There

Step1
Take a puddle jumper (that is, a short flight) to Augusta Regional Airport. This airport is served by only two carriers. Delta Connection flies to and from Atlanta, Georgia, and US Airways Express flies to and from Charlotte, South Carolina.
Step2
Drive to Augusta. Augusta is approximately 160 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina, and 150 miles east of Atlanta. It is served by two interstate highways, I-20 and I-520.

Select Your Accommodations

Step1
To book accommodations, contact Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau at (800) 726-0243 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Take advantage of Augusta's historical ambiance and stay in a B&B. Several small inns can be found in Augusta's historic district. You'll find the accommodations cozy, quaint and surprisingly inexpensive.
Step3
Consider staying in a motel to ease your budget. You'll find plenty of motels around the city with prices as low as $35 per night.
Step4
Consider making reservations at the historic Partridge Inn for gracious accommodations. This 4-star, 145-room hotel has catered to discriminating guests for more than a century. Rooms here average around $150 per night.

Find Things to Do

Step1
Join the gallery. Augusta, Georgia, is probably best known for the Masters Golf Tournament. Beginning the first week in April, the Masters draws the world's best golfers and their fans to the city.
Step2
Take a walk. Augusta is located on the Savannah River, and the Riverwalk is a beautifully landscaped area along the river bank that is a popular place for locals and tourists alike.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some hotel room prices are higher before and during the Masters Golf Tournament.
  • The busiest time in Augusta is in the beginning of April just before and during the Masters Golf Tournament. If you do not have tickets to Augusta National, you might want to consider finding another time to visit the city.
