Phoenix is known for abundant sunshine, but did you know the sky is virtually cloudless 325 days a year, on average? As the country's fifth-largest city, Phoenix offers many entertainment, cultural and outdoor activities to keep you busy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Know Your Destination

Step1
Bring plenty of water. Phoenix's elevation is 1,117 feet, and the Greater Phoenix area is in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. The desert climate provides a dry atmosphere for outdoor activities, but it also means the temperature averages 85 degrees F.
Step2
Explore the outdoors. Phoenix has the largest municipal park in the world. South Mountain Park covers more than 20,000 acres, more than 1,700 acres of which are traditional parkland.
Step3
Learn about other cultures. Phoenix is experiencing a surge of multiculturalism and becoming increasingly diverse. Today, approximately one in four residents belongs to an ethnic group not typical to the metropolitan area.

Get From Place to Place in Phoenix

Step1
Travel around the city via the Phoenix Transit System. Buses run every day, and schedules are available online. Free rides around the downtown area are also available on the Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH).
Step2
Get to Phoenix easily via Sky Harbor International Airport. The airport is only 5 minutes from downtown and about 30 minutes from local resorts.
Step3
Travel by car and enjoy the freedom of coming and going as you please. Arrive in the city via Interstate 8, 10 or 17 or another highway, or rent a car to explore the area once you arrive. Car rentals are available at the airport or at various points in town.

Choose a hotel in Phoenix

Step1
To book a hotel room, contact Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau at (877) 225-5749 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Extend your stay in Arizona by renting a condominium or apartment, or book a room at an extended-stay hotel. Phoenix has many options, and prices will vary greatly depending on the size of the unit, the length of your stay and the amenities offered.
Step3
Treat yourself to complete luxury in resort hotels. The world-famous Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa has approximately 39 acres for relaxation. Make reservations early to guarantee your spot to unwind.
Step4
Stay at a dude ranch and experience the wildness of the Southwest. You'll spend $200 to $350 per day, per person, but the price includes three meals and generally all the activities available on the ranch.
