You can upload sound files to Wikipedia, which is an online encyclopedia. An MP3 sound file must be converted to Ogg Vorbis format because it is the only format Wikipedia accepts. Ogg Vorbis is an open-source free audio project and does not have patent binding. You may convert the MP3 file through the converter into OggVorbis before uploading.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

Here’s an example:

Author = First name and last name of the author
Permission = Short quote of the permission of the copyright owner (in case it’s long, shorten it with a link to the long version).

Tips & Warnings

  • If the file already exists, you are given the option to save and overwrite the old file or to go back to the upload form and type in a new name. If you overwrite the old file, it will still remain in the image history.
  • Use descriptive names for your files to find them easily.
  • Preview is not possible. However, once the file is uploaded, you can click the Edit button and make changes to the summary and license if needed.
