Adding a sound file to Wikipedia is almost as easy as listening to one. Follow these steps to create an account and upload your audio in the correct format.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Open an account in Wikipedia

  1. Step 1

Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page. You can also key in "Wikipedia" in search engines like Google or Yahoo.

  2. Step 2

Go to the top right corner of the page. Click on "Sign in/create account." Register yourself by providing a Username and Password. Once you've been added, your Username will appear in red on the top of the page.

  3. Link to a sound file in a Wikipedia article

  4. Step 1

Once you've logged into your account, click on "upload file" blue link on the left-hand side. It's the third link in the "toolbox" section just below the search box.

  5. Step 2

Download the free converter from Google or Wikipedia. Wikipedia allows you to upload a sound file only in the Ogg Vorbis format, an open source audio system. The Ogg Vorbis is a free format and does not have patent binding.

  6. Step 3

Convert your sound file into the Ogg Vorbis format.

  7. Step 4

Upload the File after completing the legal disclaimer.

  8. Step 5

Insert the caption of the Sound file in two square brackets. This will display the file as a link. One example is the following: [[Image:Church.ogg|, which is for Mozart’s composition at the concert in New York]].

  9. Step 6

Preview and save any changes before closing the page.
