You can link to a site outside of Wikipedia. This online encyclopedia allows you to make changes in the articles. For this, you need to register with Wikipedia and get more benefits like protection of your page. Here is how you can link to a site outside of Wikipedia:

Open an account in Wikipedia

Step1
Enter the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page in the internet explorer to directly get into the Main page of Wikipedia. You can also key in Wikipedia in search engines Google or Yahoo.
Step2
Go to the top right corner of the page. Click on ‘Create account’ and register by providing your Username and a unique Password. The account gets created immediately and the Username selected by you will be displayed on top of the page.

Step1
Go to the search box and enter the name of the article you want to edit. Click on ‘Go’ or press ‘enter’. You will automatically be directed to the required article.
Step2
Click on ‘edit this page’ or ‘edit’ on the side of each section. You will go to the edit page.
Step3
Key in the full URL of the page you want to link to. This should start with http://. For example, if you want to link to Yahoo, insert the full URL: http://www.yahoo.com .
Step4
Display URLs in number format by inserting it in closed brackets: [ ]. For example, type the URL address of yahoo in the format: [http://www.yahoo.com]. The outcome will be [1] displayed as a link.
Step5
Preview the page and save before closing.

  • Note that the figure in the bracket will depend on the number of links you provide.
