You have written a great eHow article. Now you wish to share the article with as many people as possible. Wikipedia.org, the online free encyclopedia, has millions of viewers and over 1.4 millions articles. What better way to share your article than to place a link on Wikipedia.com.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A eHow article to share
  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Choose a eHow article to share on Wikipedia

  2. Step 2

Go to Wikipedia.org and search for articles in the encyclopedia that are about the same topic as your article. For example, if you have written “How to Tune a Guitar”, then go to Wikipedia.org and write “guitar tuning” in the search box on the left side of the page. Then, click “Search”.

  3. Step 3

When you arrive at the appropriate page, scroll to the bottom of the page. You should see a section entitled “External Links”. To the right of the “External Links” heading, click “edit”. You are now at the edit page for your subject matter.

  4. Step 4

“Editing” an article on Wikipedia.org means either changing or adding new information. You will be adding new information, a link, to your article. Now you must decide whether or not to create a wikipedia.com account. You can edit articles without choosing an account, but then your IP address will be recorded in the edit pages. If you wish to hide your IP address, then register for an account. If you decide not to register for an account, proceed to step 9.

  5. Step 5

Now you want to set up an account. On the upper right side of the page, click “create account”. Then, in the Log in box in the center of the page, click “create one” to the right of “Don’t have an account?” Now you are on the “Create account” page.

  6. Step 6

On the “Create account” page, choose a Username and enter it into the box next to “Username”. Then, choose a password and enter it into the box next to “Password”. Then, re-enter your password into the box next to “Retype password”. You can now choose whether to enter your email address. Then click “Create account” button. You are now on the “Login successful” page.

  7. Step 7

Now you want to return to the page you were on before you created an account. Underneath where it says “Welcome, [your username!]”, it should say “Return to [enter name of page]”. Click on that link. For example, if you wrote a weHow on Guitar Tuning and you were at the “guitar tuning” page, then you will see “Return to “guitar tuning”. You then click on the “guitar tuning” link. Links will be the blue text on the page.

  8. Step 8

Again, scroll down to the “External Links” section of the page. Click on “edit” to the right of “External Links”. You are now back at the edit page.

  9. Step 9

Now you must copy and paste the link to your article. The link is called the URL. To find the link to your article, return to www.ehow.com. Type the title of your article into the search box at the top of the page. Be sure to check the box to the right that says “ehow” [you do not need to search the entire internet for your article]. Then click “search”. A link to your article should appear on the search results.

  10. Step 10

Click on the link to your article. Now you should be at the page with your article.

  11. Step 11

At the top of the web page, next to “address”, you will find the URL of your article. Now you want to copy the URL. Left click on the URL of your article. Then, right click and scroll down to “copy”. You have now copied the URL of your article.

  12. Step 12

Now you must paste the link to your article on the Wikipedia site. Return to the Wikipedia edit page. In the edit box where it says “external links”, place the cursor below the last link on the page. Right click and scroll down to “paste”.

  13. Step 13

Now you must enter the title of your article. This title will appear as a link on the Wikipedia page. Directly to the right of where you have pasted your article link, leave a space between your article link and type in the title of your article.
It should look something like this: http://ehow.com/how_2001055_tune-guitar.html How to Tune a Guitar.

  14. Step 14

Now you must add brackets to your link. Add brackets to the outside of your link. Then, add an asterix to the left side of the link. Your finished link should look something like this: *[http://.ehow.com/how_2001055_tune-guitar.html How to Tune a Guitar]

  15. Step 15

Now you want to check the box below your edit that says “This is a minor edit”.

  16. Step 16

Now you need to preview your change. Below the “this is a minor edit”, click on the box that says “Show preview”. If you are satisfied with your results, then click the “Save Changes” button to the left of “show preview”. You are back at the Wikipedia page regarding your article subject matter.

  17. Step 17

Check the link. Click on the title of your article under “external links”. This should bring you to the weHow page with your article on it.

  18. Step 18

    Congratulations, you are finished.

on 11/9/2008 Wow, it's too bad that Wikipedia is treating eHow articles as spam.

on 4/2/2008 Ehow is blacklisted by the Spam Filter on Wikipedia. No one can add a link from ehow there anymore.

on 7/22/2007 It is against Wikipedia policy to add links to web pages that you have created (this includes eHow tutorials). Because of this, it is not recommended that you follow this tutorial unless you have a very good reason to do so. Adding a link to your eHow tutorial just for the sake of doing it will probably result in the link being removed from the page and a notice on your user talk page asking you not to do this again. Again, you should only do this in *EXCEPTIONAL* circumstances. That aside, happy editing!
