Create a Caption for an Image in a Wikipedia Article

Step1
Go to the edit tab/box of the article in which you need to show/insert the image.
Step2
Use the syntax and write the desired caption. For example, .
Step3
Enter ‘frame’ in the syntax so that the original size of the image is displayed.
Step4
Insert 'thumb' in the syntax to view the image in 180 pixels or as selected by the reader in their account preferences.
Step5
View the desired caption below the image.
Step6
Write the syntax to make links in captions . Here the words St. Xavier’s Cathedral Church and New York will be shown as links.

Tips & Warnings

 • Keep the caption precise and concise.
 • Remember to use the Wikipedia image syntax when creating the caption.
 • Avoid usage of bold text in the caption.
 • When the image cannot be viewed, alternative text replaces the image. But the image syntax can't specify an alternative text so make sure the caption fully describes the image.
