How to Buy a New Car on AutoTrader.com

Buying a new car is an exciting and expensive transaction. Before deciding on your next major purchase, it is important to carefully consider all options in terms of make, model and pricing. A vehicle purchase will impact the next several years of your life–if not longer. Investigating carefully will ensure that those years will be positively impacted by the new car you buy.

    Request Dealer Quotes on New Cars

  1. Step 1

    Navigate to http://www.autotrader.com.

  2. Step 2

    From the available links near the top of the homepage, select “New Cars”.

  3. Step 3

    Select the make and model of the new vehicle you are interested in purchasing, and the zipcode you reside in or where you wish to buy your new vehicle. Click Next.

  4. Step 4

    Select the Trim Level/Options, Preferred Color, your purchasing timeframe and how your purchase will be financed.

  5. Step 5

    Fill out the required personal information and click Find a Dealer.

  6. Step 6

    Information related to the new car you wish to purchase has been submitted, and a local dealer will contact you within 24-48 hours by phone or email.

    Navigate to http://www.autotrader.com.

  9. Step 2

    In the “Find Your Car” area, enter your zipcode or the zipcode of the area where you wish to buy your new vehicle.

  10. Step 3

    Select the make you desire to purchase and click Next.

  11. Step 4

    Change the radius button to search for new cars and using the drop-down menu, select the radius around your designated zip code that you wish to search.

  12. Step 5

    Select the body style of the new car you wish to buy and then select the model that corresponds with the make you previously chose. At this point, you can also select up to two other makes and models.

  13. Step 6

    Select the year range for your new vehicle. Remember that it is possible to buy a new vehicle that carries a different manufacturer’s year than the present calendar year. For instance, 2007 models can be purchased in mid-2006 as new vehicles, while remaining 2006 models can be purchased in early-to-mid 2007.

  14. Step 7

    Select a price range to search within.

  15. Step 8

    To select additional criteria, click the plus sign next to “view more search criteria” to expand. Select any options that will influence your purchase.

  16. Step 9

    Click Search AutoTrader. The results of your search will display. If no options are displayed, modify your selections to be less exclusive.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the widest possible search criteria, so your options are not limited to only one or two available vehicles and so that there are more pricing options.
