If you’re in the market for a new car, one great place to start doing some research is Edmunds.com. This Web site offers various reviews on new cars including vehicle road tests, car buying guides, videos and more. Their slogan is “Edmunds.com – where smart car buyers start.” If you’d like to get started on Edmunds, follow these simple steps:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

Go to the Edmunds.com Web site and click on the “CAR REVIEWS” tab at the top of the homepage.

  2. Step 2

Choose “Search All” in either the Vehicle Overviews category or the Road Tests category, depending on what type of review you are looking for.

  3. Step 3

Choose the manufacturer of the type of car you’d like to purchase. Then choose the model of the car that you are interested in purchasing.

  4. Step 4

Read through the overview information that Edmunds.com offers on the vehicle if you’ve chosen Vehicle Overview. For a thorough review, take advantage of the many links that Edmunds offers for even more information on the vehicle.

  5. Step 5

Choose a specific test if you’ve chosen Road Tests and read the information. Then go back and choose other tests to get as much information from as many road tests as possible.

  6. Step 6

Repeat the process with other manufacturers and models if you are interested in reviewing more than one car.

Tips & Warnings
  • Edmunds.com offers much more than just Vehicle Overviews and Road Tests. From the “CAR REVIEWS” page you can click on links that will take you to buying guides for specific vehicle types, a video gallery of different cars, columns and blogs, and more.
  • If you know what style of vehicle you are interested in such as a minivan, sedan or truck, but you really don’t know which manufacturer you want to go with, start by clicking on “Buying Guides” on the reviews page. You can narrow your choices down from there, and then go on to the specific reviews for the models chosen.
  • Check out Edmunds' Top Ten lists. They have lists for the top ten car deals of the month and top ten cars with the lowest TCO (true cost of ownership). If you haven’t already pinned down the exact vehicle you want to buy, these lists may point you in the right direction.
  • Edmunds is a great place to get reviews on a car that you are considering buying online. However, there is no replacement for actually getting behind the wheel of a car to make sure it is the right fit for you. After you’ve done your research on Edmunds and before you purchase a car online, go to a dealership for a test drive if possible.
  • Edmunds offers a lot of the same advice for used cars that they do for new cars. Spend a little time reading up on pre-owned models of the car you want. You never know, you may just decide the pre-owned model is right for you and save yourself a little money.
