It is no surprise that Internet customers are getting fed up with all the phishing that is happening in their mailboxes and online. Phishing is just another form of fraud, and it can ultimately cost some unknowing person their identity. Google really wants to know about these phishing sites! When you report a phishing site to Google, you are given them the opportunity to clean up their little area of the Internet so that it is safe for all users. Here is how you can go about reporting a possible phishing site to Google.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Google homepage.

  2. Step 2

Procedure #1: Click the link stating "contact us" which is in the section titled “More Google” on the page.

  3. Step 3

From this “contact us” page, click on the link for security issues.

  4. Step 4

Depending on which service, system or network you are contacting will determine where you need to email the information about the phishing site. For example, if you are writing about phishing on Gmail, you need to contact the gmail-abuse@google.com.

  5. Step 5

Contact Google by printing out the Web site in question and sending it to their mailing address through the Postal Service (see below).

  6. Step 6

Contact Google by phone or fax (see below).

Tips & Warnings
  • If you send in a page printout via the Postal Service, be sure to send it as one day mail. Most sites come and go quickly, so to catch the phishers in the act, authorities need the information about phishing sites within 48 hours.
  • Be as specific as possible when reporting phishing Web sites. If you received an email and clicked a link, be sure to report both the Web site URL and attach a copy of the email, including the headers.
  • Don’t give out your information to a phishing site in order to catch them in the act! There is no telling just how many will receive that information. Simply report the possibility that it is a phishing site and leave it at that.
  • Avoid clicking links in phishing emails. Report the site to Google immediately instead.
