Launched in September of 2003, Google News has become one of the most popular news sites on the Internet. The Google News service updates every fifteen minutes and has approximately 4,500 international news sources, making it a great place to get up-to-date information on breaking news stories. One particularly useful feature of this service is that from the Google News page, you can access many different sources for the same news story, which sometimes number in the thousands. This makes Google News one of the best places to research news stories and find out what's happening in the world. Using the Google Toolbar makes it even easier to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Google News allows you to search both current and archived news stories. To access older news, click the News Archive Search link at the top right of the home page. Note that some publications Google uses as news sources charge a fee to view their archived articles. You can eliminate these articles from your archive search by selecting the no price option.
  • Searching Google News is similar to searching the regular Google search engine. You can perform an Advanced News Search by clicking the link at the top right of the home page. This allows you to search specific news publications, search within a specific time frame and search specific phrases.
  • International versions of Google News are available by scrolling to the bottom of the home page and clicking on the link of the country you are interested in. This will give you a news page similar to the U.S. default that also includes articles specific to the country you choose.
