How to Add Google Maps to the Google Toolbar

Google Maps uses powerful mapping technology that allows you to locate businesses, street addresses and other landmarks. You can also use Google Maps to get directions from one location to another and you can even view satellite images of the location you're interested in. With a Google Maps button on your Google Toolbar, you can perform searches quickly and easily.

  • The latest version of Internet Explorer or Firefox

Instructions

  1. Search Google Maps Using the Google Toolbar

      Click the capital G in the search field on the Google Toolbar.

      Select Maps from the drop-down box.

      Type your search terms into the search field then press enter to start your search.

      Click the Settings button in Internet Explorer or the Options button in Firefox on the Google Toolbar.

      Select the Manage option then choose the Buttons tab in Internet Explorer or choose the Search tab in Firefox.

      Place a check mark in the box beside the Maps option.

      Click OK to save your changes and exit the window.

      Type your search terms into the search field on the Google Toolbar. Click the Maps button on the toolbar to search.

      Click the Maps button on your toolbar to navigate to the Google Maps home page. This is an alternative to Step 1.

Tips & Warnings

  • Google Maps are draggable. This means you can use your mouse and directional arrow keys to view areas of the map that are off-screen. You can also use the slider on the left of the map screen to zoom in and out.

  • Find specific businesses in your area with search terms that include the type of business, the words in or near and the location you're interested in. Alternatively, click the Find Businesses link on the Google Maps home page, then enter the type of business in the left search field and the location in the right search field.

  • You can click on individual business links in your search results to get the name, address and phone number and to get directions to or from the location.

  • To get driving directions, include the words to or from in your search terms. Alternatively, click the Get Directions link on the home page and enter your starting location and destination.

  • Print maps and driving directions using the Print link on the map page. In the top right corner of the print preview is a box where you can enter notes which will be printed along with the map or directions.
