• Analytical software or tracking program

1. What is the most common method of arrival to your site? Search engines? Blog links? Link trades? If the majority of your traffic is coming from links in blogs or forums and it's highly productive, you obviously want to expand your efforts to obtain these types of links.
2. What browser are they using and at what resolution? If your site looks terrible in one browser but great in another, you will not increase your traffic as quickly. Review all of the tracking and consider what your site looks like to EVERY user. If your site displays correctly to the majority, more visitors will return, and thus you'll have more traffic.
3. Country of origin. If your visitors are from a certain part of the world, you can cater to them by providing content specifically targeted to their culture or language. In turn, they will refer their friends and family, increasing your traffic as well.
4. Pay close attention to the statistics regarding bookmarks. Bookmarks equate to an eventual return to your site. If possible, compare these same numbers to the actual pages that were bookmarked and consider the content on that page. Expand on that method and grow your site accordingly.
5. Length of stay. If your visitors' stay is, for the most part, very short and your sales ratio is low as well, a referral or return visit is unlikely. Consider restyling your site or revising your content to be more appealing to those users.

• Always focus on your users' preferences, not your own. The numbers will not lie to you. Just because you like something, doesn't mean that the world will. Use the tracking numbers to determine what the public wants from your site and your traffic will begin to grow.
