How to Download and Install the Google Toolbar

It’s safe to say that Google is revolutionizing the way people use the Internet. Google is definitely not just a run-of-the-mill search engine anymore. Things You'll Need:

• An internet connection
• Operating system: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows ME, or Windows 98
• The latest version of Internet Explorer or Firefox
• The Google Toolbar

Download the Toolbar for use in Internet Explorer

1. Visit the Google web site and locate the page from which you can download the Toolbar. See the “Resources” section of this article for Web addresses for the download. Check that your computer meets the system requirements for operating the Google Toolbar.

2. Make sure you download the right version of the Toolbar for your operating system. Download version 4.0 if you use Windows 2000 or XP. Download version 3.0 if you use Windows ME or Windows 98.

3. Click the “Download Google Toolbar” button, and choose the “Save” option. Save the Toolbar to a location you’ll be able to find easily afterwards (such as your desktop or “My Documents” folder).

4. Click the “Save” button to start downloading the program. When the download is complete, locate the “Google Toolbar Installer” and double-click it to install.

5. Select the “Run” option to begin installation. In the next window, read the Terms and Conditions, and then click the “Agree & Continue” button.

6. Read the information in the next window carefully. Here you need to choose whether or not you want to enable the PageRank feature. This feature tells you how important and useful Google considers a web page to be. Once you have made your choice, click the “Finish” button.

7. Close all browser windows to complete installation of the Toolbar.

8. Visit the Google web site and locate the page from which you can download the Toolbar. See the “Resources” section of this article for Web addresses for the download.

9. Check that your computer meets the system requirements for operating the Google Toolbar.

10. Click the “Download Google Toolbar” button.

11. Read the “Terms and Conditions” then click the “Agree and Install” button.

12. Click the “Install” button in the pop-up window then click the “Restart Firefox” button to restart your browser.

13. Enable or disable PageRank and Enhanced Safe Browsing when prompted.

Tips & Warnings

• Enhanced Safe Browsing is only available for use in Firefox. This feature of the toolbar protects you from “phishing” sites that exist only to try and capture personal information about you.
