With the advent of the Internet, you can place orders for a variety of products, even your dinner, online. You can order online for delivery, pick up or even a sit-down dinner at your local restaurant. Follow these steps the next time you want to order dinner online.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Start by searching for local restaurants in your city or neighborhood from where you would like to order dinner.
Step2
Shortlist a few restaurants and note their contact information including Web site, email address and phone number.
Step3
Contact the restaurant by making a phone call, if the restaurant does not seem to have a Web site. Inquire if they take online orders for dinners. Some restaurants may not have a Web site, but are affiliated with other directory and online ordering services where you may take advantage of online ordering. You can learn more by calling the restaurant.
Step4
Visit the Web site of the restaurant and see if you can order dinner online.
Step5
Email the restaurant and inquire if you can place an online order for dinner.
Step6
Search for the Web sites that offer directory service of restaurants that take online dinner orders. Be sure to also search for local restaurants in your area.
Step7
Search for chain restaurants in your area and see if you can order dinner online.
Step8
Fill the online dinner order form by entering specific information such as your name, telephone number, email address and home address. Most restaurants require you to submit a landline number and not a cell phone number.
Step9
See whether you are required to pay for your order upfront by entering your credit card information or if there is payment upon delivery. If you are given an option, consider choosing payment upon delivery, especially if you are trying online ordering for the first time.
Step10
Give a reasonable tip to the individual delivering your food.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rules and policies regarding payment methods, delivery requirements and hours of operation depend on the restaurant. Some restaurants may limit delivery area, minimum order size and levy delivery charges. Read the fine print before ordering online.
  • Always have a backup option while ordering online. It is likely that the food items you have ordered may not be available. Usually, restaurants that have an online form would also ask for an alternate option.
  • If you have to pay upfront with your credit card, ensure that the Web site is encrypted with the SSL 128 bit encryption. 128 bit encrypted Web pages would have a small “lock” icon displayed on the status bar of your browser. Web sites without such encryption are susceptible to hackers.

on 1/4/2008 This is so cool! You can even order from Pizza Hut online. It is new and I was afraid of it until I read your article. Great advice!
