Getting the word out about your Web site is probably the No. 1 task for many Web site owners, bloggers, podcasters and other content providers. Why not use your podcast to spread the word about your Web site?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Graphics software
  • MP3 files
  • Web site
  • Audio editing software
  • Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Create your podcast with your favorite audio editing software. When you create your file, be sure to add in a plug for your Web site at the beginning and end of your podcast. You can simply say, “If you like this episode, be sure to subscribe to this podcast at www.yourwebsite.com” or “This podcast was made possible by Your Great Company.”

  2. Step 2

Upload your podcast to your Web server.

  3. Step 3

Publish your podcast. When you add your podcast to your Web site and create your RSS feed, be sure to give great detail in the description about who is providing the podcast and where to get more information about the podcast.

  4. Step 4

Add your podcast to podcast directories. Try adding your podcast to Yahoo! Podcasts, iTunes, Podcast Alley and other directories. Be sure to list it in relevant categories.

  5. Step 5

Update your podcast regularly. Be sure that you post new podcasts on a regular basis to keep your content fresh in all of the podcast directories. This will ensure that you are added on any “newly updated podcasts” and “most recent podcast” lists.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to add your podcast to as many podcast directories as possible. This will help you to get more subscribers. Having more subscribers means that more listeners will learn about your Web site by listening to your podcast.
  • You want to have listeners eagerly signing up to your podcast. Be sure to create podcasts with interesting content and interesting titles to gain their attention.
  • When uploading your podcast to your Web server, be sure to upload it in binary format. In any other format you will risk corrupting your file.
  • If you submit your podcast to many directories, you might run the chance of having hundreds of downloads and using up a lot of your bandwidth. Many podcasters use Internet Archive to store their audio files.
