How to Add a Link to Your eHow Article to Your AOL IM Profile

You are proud of the eHows you have written and you want to share them with your friends, family and hey, even strangers who can benefit from your knowledge. One great way is to add it to your profile on your AOL Instant Messenger.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • AIM account
  • Internet connection.
  • eHow article to share

Step1
Create an AOL Instant Messanger [AIM] account. If you already have one, skip to step . Go to www.Aol.com. Click on “AIM” on the top left corner.
Step2
Then click on “Get one FREE” next to “Don’t have a screen name?”. You are now on the “create a screen name” page.
Step3
Now you must select whether to “create a screen name” or “Use an existing e-mail address as a Screen Name”. Underneath this, click on “Privacy Policy” and “Terms of Use”. Read Both. Then, click “continue”. You are now on the “screen name” page

Choose a screen name. Then, fill out the rest of the information on the page. Remember to copy the letters and numbers in the box at the bottom of the page. Then, click “submit” at the bottom of the page. The page should now say “Congratulations! Your Screen Name is [enter name here]. You now have an AIM screen name.
Step5
Log into AIM. Click on “My AIM” and scroll down to “Edit Profile…”. A window should pop-up that says “Create a Profile- Searchable Directory”. Click “next”. The next window should say “Create a Profile- Chat Interests”. Click “next”. The page should now say “Create a Profile- More Information”.
Step6
Now you want to post a link to your article. Now you need to find the link to your article. The link is also known as the “URL” or “web address” of your article. To do this, go to www.wehow.com. At the top of the page in the middle, enter the title of your article in the “Google search box”. To the right of the search box be sure to click on the “eHow” box. Then click “search”. Your article should appear on the “search results”. Left click on your article.
Step7
Now you need to copy the URL of your article. At the top of the page, where it says “address”, left click on the address. Then, Right click on the highlighted part and drag the mouse down to “copy”.
Step8
Now you need to return to the AIM profile edit section “Create a Profile:-More Info”. Click on the button that says “link”. Now a small window should pop-up that says “edit Hyperlink”.
Step9
Now you need to paste the URL of your weHow article underneath “Hyperlink URL:”. Right click in the box and drag the mouse down to “paste”. Then, in the section underneath “Hyperlink text:”, enter the title of your article. Next, click “okay” on the bottom. You are now on the “Create a Profile- More Info” page
Step10
Now you must make sure the link works. First, click “Finish”. Then, return to your AIM buddy list. Add yourself to your buddy list. Then, right click on your name and click “get buddy info”. Your profile should pop-up. Click on the link you have just created to make sure that it works.
Step11
Congratulations. You have successfully added a link to your eHow article on AIM.
