Moving up from light to standard mode is almost as big a step as moving from beginner to light. There are new moves to master, new songs to learn and new challenges to overcome. Standard mode gives you the best workout. Follow these steps to improve your game. Let's get moving!

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remember to hydrate and stretch! If you don't, you'll be extremely sore, cranky and irritable afterward. Drink lots of water and stretch yourself first!

  2. Step 2

Try the workout mode first if you haven't already. It provides a nice, less-competitive environment. You can try out songs and get a good workout. On workout mode, the "game over" doesn't interrupt you every three songs.

  3. Step 3

Ease yourself into standard mode. It's quite a step up from light mode. There are a lot more corner jumps, half-steps and freeze arrows. Plus, you need to do them faster. Practice with a standard song with less than five stars/feet. "Spin the Disc" and "Un, Deux, Trois" are good choices. Find your bearings first!

  4. Step 4

Get ready for the off-beats! Several standard songs will throw you off completely if you're not used to them. Prepare by playing the song over until you can do it, or avoid it altogether until you're ready. Some standard songs have so many off-beats they'll intimidate you. Ease into it! It's tough but with practice you'll make it through.

  5. Step 5

Prepare for an odd sense of deja-vu. In standard mode, light songs return but with extra beats for standard-level diffculty. "Speed Over Beethoven," "Cartoon Heroes" and "Irrestiblement" all sound very different in standard mode. Don't worry! With practice, you will look forward to the workout.

  6. Step 6

Get ready for double-jumps! Periodically, a song will have a couple jumps in quick succession. Those double-jumps are difficult to master--especially if the jumps are in opposite corners. Practice makes perfect!

  7. Step 7

Watch for strings of half-beats! Now, instead of a string of three half-beats, you have to keep up with more. Expect up to nine steps. It's hard to follow the half-beat strings with your eyes and your feet. Keep trying it until you can!

  8. Step 8

Grind if you have to! To perfect a song's routine, play it over and over. The repetition will help build the confidence you need to tackle other songs on the first try. Remember to have fun as you do!

Tips & Warnings
  • Be patient! The standard mode is challenging. Keep practicing. Before you know it, you'll be pounding out the tunes!
