Step 1
Stretch! Just because you’re getting better doesn’t mean you can slack on this! Stretching is more important the further you go.
-
Step 2
Drink lots of water before, during and after your workout!
-
Step 3
Remember, it's just a game. Learning to do it well takes practice. Don’t beat yourself up if you bomb the first few songs!
-
Step 4
Learn to keep your feet on the arrows in the middle after each move. In the harder modes, quick footwork is essential. Each second counts!
-
Step 1
Select a song with two to three stars/feet for your first venture. Most of them differ little from beginner songs--except they come with a music video instead of that awful dancer!
-
Step 2
Keep an eye out for corner jumps! They're much like the other jumps--only now they range from top/left, top/right to bottom/left, bottom/right.
-
Step 3
Hold your foot down when you see a long block of arrows aligned in one direction. That's a freeze arrow. All you have to do is hold your foot down from the time it starts to the time it ends. Only later does this become complicated when you need to add a step.
-
Step 4
Watch for the half-steps! There are a few of these as in light mode. A half-step has three steps. The first points in one direction. The second represented by a different color points in the opposite direction. The third goes back toward the first. The second step is slightly off beat, so you will need to step-step-step rapidly in order to hit all three. Once you grasp this, you'll advance far!
-
Step 5
Be aware that there may be some off-beats later on. Off-beats are steps not in time with the music. Most light songs don’t have them, but a few do.
-
Step 6
Catch the pause! A few songs like to stop partway through. Be careful!
-
Step 7
Take a break if you need to! There’s no shame in resting partway through a set. DDR can be quite a workout. Remember to take care of yourself!
