Whether it’s a contemporary or more classic style, selecting a cabinet to house your stereo is about more than just looks. Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select a place in your home to put the stereo cabinet. How much space will it require? Take measurements.

  2. Step 2

Determine the size of your cabinet by measuring your stereo. Will you want your stereo enclosed, or in the open?

  3. Step 3

Shop for stereo cabinets at local furniture stores and online to compare the variety of cabinets. What fits your home’s style?

  4. Step 4

Select a cabinet that best fits the needs of your stereo equipment. Do you need a lot of CD storage space? Will those speaker wires get in the way?

  5. Step 5

Expect to have to assemble parts of the cabinet. Make sure you have the proper tools and space for assembly.

  6. Step 6

Move cabinet to desired location. Move your stereo to the cabinet and arrange power cords and wires behind the cabinet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your home’s décor in mind when shopping for cabinets. If your home is decorated with warm-wood tones, a metal cabinet is probably not a good match.
  • Consider future add-ons such as speakers or CD players. If you are going to need more room later on, make sure to leave room to accommodate those additions.
  • Go online and look for reviews from other customers or read consumer magazines. This will help narrow your choices.
  • Have a budget in mind when shopping.
  • Shopping online offers a wider selection of cabinets. Factor in the cost of shipping and handling, insurance and other details.
