For anyone with a family, it can be difficult to find an affordable vacation that everyone can enjoy. While air travel, accommodations and entertainment can get quite expensive, there are ways to find cheap vacations for the entire family.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Budget
  • Destinations
  • Transportation
  1. Step 1

Make a budget. This will keep you on track with expenses and give you an idea of available funds.

  2. Step 2

Set a date. Dates can be important when talking to travel agencies and using online help. They determine whether cheaper vacations are available during the time you’ve set aside for your vacation.

  3. Step 3

Determine the type of vacation you want. Prices differ for different types of vacations such as cruises, road trips and overseas travel.

  4. Step 4

Make a list of vacation ideas. This list should include what you expect to get out of your vacation.

  5. Step 5

Research cheap vacations online. There are several Web sites that offer vacation packages and last-minute deals. These sites can help you find cheaper hotels, airfare and dining. Many of these sites can also book your hotel or airfare in advance for a small fee or nothing at all.

  6. Step 6

Talk to your friends about their vacations. Some may have also had to watch their budget and could give you good tips on how to spot cheaper vacations for your family.

  7. Step 7

Keep your options open. Narrow your list down to two to three of the cheaper options. Before deciding on one specifically, be sure to make sure the dates that you have chosen match up with the dates offered by the travel company.

  8. Step 8

Choose your vacation. You need to set up all travel plans and book anything necessary including hotels, airfare and dining.

Tips & Warnings
  • Include emergency funds in your budget. Situations could occur on your trip such as illness, car troubles or other emergencies that may require extra money.
  • Your list for your vacation should include potential items you’ll need, things you’re interested in doing while on vacation and other expectations for your vacation. This is good to have when comparing potential vacation areas and talking with travel agents.
  • Go through more than one travel company if possible. Prices differ from company to company and you may find cheaper prices for the same vacation at another agency.
  • Be sure to stick as close to your budget as possible.
