Step 1
Research federal student loans. Unless you are a non-traditional student, you are limited to federal based loans, with Stafford loans and Perkins loans being the most common. Neither of these require a credit-check.
-
Step 2
Fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is an integral component in securing government loans. Your FAFSA will put you on track not only to receive loans, it will also help you secure grant money if applicable.
-
Step 3
Apply for the Stafford loan. A Subsidized Stafford loan is for needy students, so if you have low-income and no credit nor cosigner, you will likely succeed in getting this loan. While the amount awarded in a Stafford Loan is small, it is a starting point in financing your education.
-
Step 4
Apply for a Perkins loan, which is usually designated for students who show the greatest financial need. The Perkins loan has a 5% interest rate and longer payback terms than the Stafford loan.
-
Step 5
Non-traditional students have more options available to then. While they still only qualify for Stafford loans and Perkins loans, there are many scholarships and grants available for students returning to college to pursue degrees. Check your school’s website for more information on these.

on 4/2/2009 In the time of recession its not easy to get student loans and maximum of the copanies has shut down their student loan division. In this crucial period you can go for goverment student grants and scholar ships. But here also you have to apply early to avail the money. If you are lucky you can have yours share of scholarship. You can find more information at http://www.studentloanswithnocosigner.info

on 11/13/2008 I understand exactly how you all feel, up to this point (my senior year in college) I have paid all of my tuition off, went to a two year school, worked and saved full time, then took a year off after getting two associates degrees, and WORKED MY BUTT off! It with the help of a few thousand from my family got me this far, I was lucky. But i am running into the same problem, I am out of money.. two semesters left and i have bad to fair credit.. payed off a credit card debt, and a Phone bill that defaulted cause Cingular screwed me! Other then that I am 23 wanting to finish school.. and well my parents wont co-sign, and FASFA doesn't help me with anything. In all honesty i don't want my parents to help me at all, even with the signing,(I work, live on my own, pay for my car, rent, gas, food, electric, etc..) I am independent other then health insurance, which ends this December..! My Paren

I was just curious on how and where you even managed to get up to $6,000 towards your college? I'm in the same predicament you are and haven't been able to find any loan money. Any money would help and if I could find that same amount I would be in a lot better of a place than I am right now.
