How to Remove a Water Meter Cover

If there is a leak in your water meter, you need to fix it. The first thing you have to do when fixing a water meter is remove the water meter cover. These steps will help you remove your water meter cover.

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Locate the screws that hold the water meter cover on. There should be two screws, one on the right and one on the left side of the cover.
Step2
Use a medium sized screwdriver to remove the two screws. The wall cover should loosen up as the screws are removed. Make sure it does not fall to the ground.
Step3
Pull the cover off the meter and set it aside. Make sure you keep the screws with the cover; this will make reattaching the cover easier.
Step4
When you are ready to put the cover back on, simply reverse the steps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hold the water meter cover in place while you are unscrewing it. If the cover falls to the ground, it could be damaged.
  • Keep the screws with the cover when you remove it.
  • To put the cover back on, simply reverse the steps.
