How to Find a Job that will Allow Your Student Loan to be Forgiven

After graduation, some students can't find jobs soon enough or haven't saved any money to help pay off their student loans. One option to help with student loans is to find a job that has a debt-forgiveness program. Here's how to find a job that allows student loans to be forgiven.

1. Look into public service jobs. The Peace Corps, AmeriCorps and other military service jobs are good places to start. They offer programs that include debt-forgiveness and student loan deferments.

2. Check for teaching jobs at low-income schools. This applies to those eligible to teach. Some who have taught for five years or more at a low-income school and meet other requirements are eligible for forgiveness of some of your loans.

3. Consult your lender. Inform them of your situation whether or not you choose to apply for a public service job that will take you out of the working force and into volunteering.

4. Research other various cases of loan forgiveness. These could include the following:You become permanently disabled, your school closed before completion of your program, your school forged your signature, your school falsely made you eligible for any type of aid or your school did not refund your loan money if you dropped out.

• A deferment of your student loan occurs when the borrower allows you to postpone the payment of your loan for various reasons. You will still need to repay your loan in any case.

• Check your school's refund policies that apply to federal aid and any other information materials in all cases.

• Don't forget to consult your loan borrower, especially if you do volunteer for Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. These programs could require work outside of the country, and if your loan borrower is not aware of this, they could claim that you defaulted on your loan.
