If you are planning a trip to a fancy restaurant and want to know how to tip properly, here is some good advise:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Reservations to fancy restaurant
  • Good Service
  1. Step 1

    At the end of your meal. Evaluate if the service is worthy of an average tip or outstanding tip. Tip a little more for outstanding service.

  2. Step 2

    A good rule of thumb is to tip 15-20% on the food and 10-15% on the alcohol.

  3. Step 3

    Here is a short list of the tips you may want to provide during your visit:

    * Food Server - 15-20%
    * Bartender - 15-20% or $1 per drink.
    * Wine Steward - 10% of wine bill.
    * Coat Check - $1
    * Restroom Attendant - $1

Tips & Warnings
  • Tip on the pre-tax amount.
  • If you are not pleased with the service you have received, ask to speak to the manager. You deserve to have great service in a high-end restaurant.

on 1/29/2008 "were verbally torn to pieces when they left poor tips" I hope not to their faces...that would be bad for business. The last thing a restaraunt wants or needs is bad press.
