Soap, essentially a cleaning agent, may leave unsightly stains on several surfaces around your home, especially in your bathroom and even in your kitchen. Some of the areas affected by soap scum are bathtub, shower doors, sink or basin, mirrors and tiles. Soap scum buildup should be cleaned on a routine basis. Here’s how to remove soap scum from tiles:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Squeegee
  • Tile cleaner
  • Wash cloths
  • Sponge-tipped brush
  1. Step 1

Use any of the several products available in the market to clean soap scum from tiles, especially if the scum buildup is not very heavy.

  2. Step 2

Facing heavy soap scum buildup? Use non-abrasive cleaner containing bleach. Bleach can help eliminate not only soap scum, but also mildew.

  3. Step 3

Use only cleaner that is meant for removing soap scum from tiles as different cleaners have a different proportion of chemical components.

  4. Step 4

Follow the instructions written on the label of the cleaner and clean your tiles accordingly.

  5. Step 5

Use a squeegee to clean shower doors and bathroom walls to avoid scum buildup. Daily maintenance will save you hours of cleaning time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use mild soaps or switch to liquid soap in your bathroom, such as those that contain less chemicals. This way you can have less soap and mildew buildup.
  • Ensure that the area is well ventilated before you start cleaning. Put on rubber gloves and wear eye-protecting gear to avoid contact with chemicals.
  • Do not use all-purpose cleaners on stone tiles. Use cleaners specifically made for cleaning tiles.
