Click on the link to your state's government Web site.

If you are having trouble finding this information use the contact information found on this site to call, email, or write for forms, instructions, and general information about obtaining a sales tax number and/or permit. If you were able to find the right information on the Web site, download and print out all the important information needed to understand and register for a sales tax permit and number.

Fill out the required forms and submit with fees.

Determine if you have to register for a local sales tax permit. To do this, you will need to contact your local government. You can usually find the contact information for your local government in your phone book under the government section.

Call your local sales tax authority to find out if you need to register for a local sales tax permit, how you can register for a local sales tax permit, how much it costs and what type of reports need to be filed with the local government.

Follow the instructions provided by the local government to apply for and obtain a local sales tax permit, if required.
