DVRs are very handy devices in the field of surveillance. By attaching a camera to your DVR, you can not only monitor all movements in the designated area but also store the footage for later viewing. In the following steps, we will see how you can view all the channels simultaneously with your DVR.

From Quick Guide: Using DVRs
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A motion sensing DVR
  • Multiplex facility
  • Monitor or TV
  • Connecting cables
  • Cameras
  1. Step 1

Understand DVR channels. DVRs are available with single or multiple channels. These channels refer to the number of cameras that can be attached to the DVR.

  2. Step 2

Understand a multiplexer. A multiplexer combines signals from all the different cameras and beams them onto your screen as one signal. Thus it is imperative to have a multiplexer in order to view multiple channels simultaneously. While many DVRs have built-in multiplexers, many will require a separate multiplexer.

  3. Step 3

Understand the display mode. Depending upon the number of channels, you will have multiple boxes of live feed on your screen. If you find a particular motion requiring more attention, you can highlight it by selecting it.

  4. Step 4

Check your DVR's user manual for navigating through the Display mode. Every DVR will have a different process for navigation and viewing multiple channels. The user manual for your DVR outline steps to do so.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your user manual for specific function keys to view all channels. This may differ from one brand of DVR to another.
