Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Do some online surfing. Visit relevant Web sites or join a VoIP community to learn more on how to troubleshoot some of frequent VoIP problems.
Step2
Download an updated user’s guide from your service provider. If you already have a VoIP service, then your provider will most likely offer an online documentation on how to troubleshoot the most common problems of VoIP. These include dropped calls, no dial tone and so on.
Step3
Check your VoIP installation and setup. Many times, a minor fault in the setup can trigger a major problem. Check your adapter and router. These two devices are the causes of a majority of VoIP problems. Update your firmware if nothing else works.
Step4
Check the cables that connect your VoIP network. Loose and unsecured cables result in minor problems.
Step5
Download the relevant software. You will find several VoIP troubleshooting software on Web sites. These programs optimize your VoIP network path to enhance your VoIP performance and troubleshoot some of the network congestion that troubles you to use VoIP efficiently. They improve call quality (time to get through a call) and voice clarity. Learn more about such software online (see link below).
Step6
Call your service provider’s customer service is none of the above work.
