How to keep yourself awake while driving

I always fall asleep when I drive, even if it's just a few miles home from work. I've developed ways to stay awake. Here's how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Car, long road, gum, music, phone, imagination.

Step1

Realize that you are falling asleep.

Step2

Turn on music and start singing to it. You'll look like an idiot of course, but it's better than looking dead from an accident.

Step3

Chew gum. Don't just put it in your mouth, make sure you are chewing it.

Step4

Call a friend. Talk about silly things. Find a friend that let's you do the talking, instead of just listening. It won't help.

Tips & Warnings

You can fall asleep in the daytime just as easy as night, so be careful.
Parking lots are good places to sleep, just lock the doors.
These tips are only a temporary solution. If they don't work right away, you'll really just need to pull over and take a nap.

on 7/3/2008 I think the cell phone is a good idea, actually! I call my friends sometimes when I am sleepy while driving. You just have to be careful, that's all.

on 4/30/2007 The singing part usually works, but rolling down the window while going 70 mph...I mean 65 mph on the freeway...is a sure bet to keep you awake!

on 3/25/2007 Put your hand out of the window, surprisingly good. Tends to work in the cold only though. Also, if in a manual keeping changing up and down a gear, something to do.
