How to keep yourself awake while driving

I always fall asleep when I drive, even if it's just a few miles home from work. I've developed ways to stay awake. Here's how.

Things You'll Need

  • Car, long road, gum, music, phone, imagination.

Instructions

    • 1

Realize that you are falling asleep.

    • 2

Turn on music and start singing to it. You'll look like an idiot of course, but it's better than looking dead from an accident.

    • 3

Chew gum. Don't just put it in your mouth, make sure you are chewing it.

    • 4

Call a friend. Talk about silly things. Find a friend that let's you do the talking, instead of just listening. It won't help.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can fall asleep in the daytime just as easy as night, so be careful.

  • Parking lots are good places to sleep, just lock the doors.

  • These tips are only a temporary solution. If they don't work right away, you'll really just need to pull over and take a nap.

I think the cell phone is a good idea, actually! I call my friends sometimes when I am sleepy while driving. You just have to be careful, that's all.

If you are already sleepy, then it is probably not a good idea to further distract yourself from the task of driving by chatting it up on your cell phone

The singing part usually works, but rolling down the window while going 70 mph...I mean 65 mph on the freeway...is a sure bet to keep you awake!
