How to Be a Good Jedi in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

We all struggle between doing the right thing and the easy thing, and your Jedi in Knights of the Old Republic is no exception. It is not always easy or clearly desirable to do the right thing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to people. You can find all sorts of opportunities to do good if you simply talk to people. Some folks have missing family members, some survived brutal attacks by scoundrels, and some could just use a hand in general. Helping them out is a surefire way to get that bright light beaming around you.

  2. Step 2

Persuade if possible! Talking things out and getting people to reason will almost always yield a more positive result than fighting them.

  3. Step 3

Do not Force Persuade! While it can be helpful on occasion, Force Persuade options in Knights of the Old Republic usually lead to dark-side points, as you are using your power to manipulate someone. Try and do this as little as possible, and only when the outcome is clearly good.

  4. Step 4

Be nice! Antagonizing people and being apathetic towards their plight will lead you down the dark path very quickly.

  5. Step 5

Do not get sucked in! While working your way around Korriban, the lure of the dark side is very strong. While you may have to play the part of the Dark Jedi in training in Knights of the Old Republic, there is almost always a light-side alternative that will not land you in hot water with your trainers.

  6. Step 6

Turn them back! Many of the evil characters in the game can be made to see the light. Try to bring them back!

  7. Step 7

Don’t rush. Many battles and chances of falling to the dark side can be avoided by planning and a little patience.

  8. Step 8

Follow the Jedi Code. It is more than just simple poetry and something to memorize. It really will keep you on the path to the light if you follow it.

  9. Step 9

Get to know your comrades in Knights of the Old Republic. All teammates offer something unique, but getting to know them can reveal insights into their history and opportunities for the light to shine through. This becomes much more pertinent in the sequel.

  10. Step 10

Listen to your comrades. Many of your companions will offer advice during certain situations, depending on their views. People like Bastila, Carth and Mission will always offer advice that will keep you in the light. Jolee will also offer helpful tidbits, but his advice tends to be more on the neutral side of things.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sometimes, persuading a person can have negative repercussions. Try and talk them down, but talk them down to the right path.

on 6/27/2008 **Avoid using Force Persuasion for personal gain(i.e. avoiding docking fees)
**When conversation options come up, very often the top answer is the light side option and the bottom one tends to be the dark side option. #Remember that this is NOT always the case!#
**Just do the right thing! Following the light path is really simple-help others, be kind, and do not use the Force for anything but to aid others.
Happy gaming and may the Force be with you!
