Belt loops are an essential part of pants and shorts. They help hold your belt in place and keep your pants up. Over time, though, belt loops tend to weaken and break off. This can be a problem particularly if the pants are in good shape. With a few pointers and a sewing machine, you can make your own new belt loop.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the width of the belt loop on your pants. Using a fabric that matches your pants, cut a piece of fabric about four to five inches long to make the belt loop. Cut the width about two inches wide.

  2. Step 2

Roll or fold up your fabric piece to the measured width. Fold the sides together so that they touch and then fold one side to reach the other. This helps create a solid piece of fabric with no loose ends. After folding, pin the piece together in the middle.

  3. Step 3

Sew the fabric together use a sewing machine. Sewing it together will help it stay in the shape of a belt loop. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can hand stitch, but be sure that you keep your stitches close together so that you do not have any holes in your fabric.

  4. Step 4

Apply the loop to your clothing. Pin the loop in the place it is suppossed to go. Use either a sewing machine or sew by hand, attach the top and bottom of the belt loop to your clothing. Cut your loose threads off and you are ready to go.

Tips & Warnings
  • A sewing machine creates a tighter stitching that will help the belt loop stay in place.
