A short men’s hairstyle doesn’t have to be boring. Whether you’re looking for a trendy men’s hairstyle for everyday or a cut that can do double duty at the office and be jazzed up for the weekend, Matthew Perry’s hairstyle fits the bill.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Firm-hold hair gel
  • Firm-hold hair spray
  • Blow dryer
  1. Step 1

Wear Matthew Perry’s hairstyle if you have medium to thick hair that is naturally straight. If your hair is prone to “sticking up” or spiking on its own, all the better.

  2. Step 2

Cut the sides and back short and tapered to look clean and professional. Perry's cut is basically a variation on the traditional men’s haircut.

  3. Step 3

Leave the two top layers approximately two inches long, "chip" the ends of the layers and thin to add texture. This is what makes Perry's haircut distinctive. Chipping is when the stylist points the ends of her scissors at roughly a 45-degree angle and chips out tiny pieces from the ends to create ragged ends. Thinning is when a stylist uses either thinning shears or a razor to remove excess thickness from the hair without shortening the length.

  4. Step 4

Style your hair like Matthew Perry's by applying a firm holding gel to damp hair. Blow dry your hair while spiking your hair up with your fingers. To do this pull your hair up and away from your head while you point the nozzle of your drier up at the section of hair. Leave your hair slightly damp for better hold.

  5. Step 5

Use a firm holding, non-aerosol hair spray (the kind in a pump spray bottle) and spray your hair up in a random spiky pattern.

  6. Step 6

Don’t have all your hair stand straight up. Let the look be messy, with multiple directions to the spikes. The hair in the front should spike up the most with the hair lying a little flatter on the sides and back.

Tips & Warnings
  • When choosing a hair gel, be sure to choose a good quality, non-flaking type. Cheaper hair gels can cause white, flakey build up that will ruin your hairstyle.
