Sequins are a unique accent to any garment. They give a lot of sparkle and shine to your wardrobe. One downside to sequins is that they fall off very easily. When this happens you can sew sequins back on easily using the following steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Sequins
  • Sewing needle

Step1
Buy extra sequins at craft stores or fabric stores. Lay the garment flat across your lap. Thread your needle with thread the color of your garment. Place the sequin on the proper area. Take tape and tape down the sides of the sequin so that it does not move during sewing. Be careful not to cover the holes on the sequin.
Step2
Take your needle and thread it through the first hole of your sequin starting on the underside of your fabric. Then from the top of your garment, thread the needle through the remaining hole. Continue this motion several times. Be sure that your sequin is secured tightly.
Step3
Take the needle and go from the top to the back one last time after you have threaded through each hole several times. Cut off the thread from the needle and tie a knot in the thread to keep it from coming undone from the sequin. Remove the tape from the sequin and it should be ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you buy a garment with sequins, be sure to check all the tags that come on the garment as they usually come with extra sequins.
  • Handwash or have your sequined items dry cleaned. This will be more gentle on the sequins and help them stay on.
