How to Cook Pizza Sauce

One of the secrets of great pizza is a great pizza sauce. You can make your own pizza sauce in a few easy steps.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 small can of tomatoe paste
  • 1/8 cup of chopped garlic
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 10 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 table spoon of sea salt
  1. Step 1

    pour the olive oil into a pan over medium heat. once the oil starts to bubble, turn the heat to a simmer and add the garlic. Let the garlic cook for a 2-3 minutes over a low heat

  2. Step 2

    Once the garlic has cooked for 2-3 minutes, add the crushed tomatoes, tomatoe paste, salt, and basil leaves and raise to a boil.

  3. Step 3

    Once the sauce reaches a boil, turn the temperature down to simmer and place a cover on the pot

  4. Step 4

    Let the sauce simmer for an hour stirring occasionally.

  5. Step 5

    taste-test the sauce periodically and add salt/basil/garlic to taste.

Tips & Warnings
  • do not overcook the garlic in Step #1. If it is brown you havce likely overcooked it -- just throw it out and start over.
