Things You'll Need:
- CD burner
- Blank CD-Rs
- MP3 music library / iTunes
- CD label making software
-
Step 1
The most important thing for you to remember when making your Mix CD is to Be Yourself. Don’t start liking music you don’t already like in an effort to impress her – if she likes you enough to listen to whatever you put together, she’ll be interested in your choices. Pick the songs that say things to her that you want to say.
-
Step 2
Take some time to work on packaging. A little effort on a sleeve, CD label, and overall presentation could go a long way and will further convey the idea that you really care about her and think that she’s worth the extra effort. If you’re not confident about your artistic ability in these areas, don’t sweat it – iTunes can make a very nice CD sleeve for you, and your local Best Buy has several options for CD label making software.
-
Step 3
Any songs that you can pick that refer to an experience you’ve shared together might be a really good choice to include. For example, a song about a rainy day could make her think of that day you lent her your jacket to keep her warm and dry during an unexpected shower. You DID lend her your jacket, didn’t you?
-
Step 4
Keep a healthy mix between songs with lyrics that say things explicitly and songs that say things without words, but with a feeling. Songs that say things without words can have a very strong emotional impact.
-
Step 5
It’s crucial to personalize your disc and make it your own. But having said that, if you are struggling for material to fill out your disc, here are just a few suggestions:
-
Step 6
The Righteous Brothers, Ebb Tide. Hope Sandoval, Suzanne. Zero7, Destiny. The Jesus and Mary Chain, Just Like Honey. Elliott Smith, Tomorrow Tomorrow. Broken Social Scene, Lover’s Spit. Pale Saints, Kinky Love. Saint Etienne, I Was Born on Christmas Day. Liz Phair, Fantasize.

on 12/19/2006 Nothing says "I really like you" like a killer mix CD. It's genius becuase it costs next to nothing, but the time investment is what tells her you care.
