Do you ever drive in slippery conditions get going a little too quick, and realize that you are about to lose control of your car? This article will present how to regain control in an under-steer situation.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • a safe car
  • a place to practice like a snowy parking lot

Step1
Under-steering is when your car's front end starts to get out of control. It will feel like it is not steering as much as you would like, to the point that you will miss the turn.
Step2
Know your car, as soon as you feel that you are starting to skid, before it is out of control, you will need to first apply pressure to your breaks. Under-steering is caused by a loss of grip to the front wheels. Bringing inertia to the front end will give more pressure under your wheels, hence more grip.
Step3
Now try to add a little more steering to try to get back that turn.
Step4
The steering and weight shift should get you back if you are not driving too fast.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice in a parking lot
  • Newer cars are usually made to under-steer so be ready for it
  • Drive an All Wheel Drive car such as an Audi A4 Quattro
  • take safety driving classes from a local car club
  • If it is snowy or icy follow my other article on preparing your car for such conditions
  • Never make brusque movements steering, breaking, or accelerating
  • Never drive a car too fast in slippery conditions
