An MRE is a military food ration. MRE stands for "Meal, Ready to Eat". While some people hate them, they can be very tasty. They can be useful for camping or emergency food supplies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • An MRE.
  • Some water.

Step1
Open up the main MRE bag.
Step2
Remove the main entre from its cardboard box - do not open the actual bag (yet).
Step3
Rip open the top of the MRE heater (your MRE may or may not have a heater. All military MREs have heaters).
Step4
Place the entre pouch inside the heater bag.
Step5
Add water up to the bottom line on the bag.
Step6
Fold the top of the bag over, and stuff it all back into the entre box.
Step7
Lay the box on the ground, with a rock or something propping up the open side so the water won't spil out.
Step8
Eat the other stuff in the MRE, like crackers, etc.
Step9
After 5 or 10 minutes take the entre out of the heater. Rip the top open and eat right out of the bag.
Step10
You can save treats like skittles, etc. to snack on after you are done eating.

Tips & Warnings

  • MREs create a lot of trash. Make sure to pick up after yourself.
  • When using the heater, make sure you have adequate ventillation. The fumes are not good for you.

on 5/23/2007 For clarity, Step Two should say "remove main entree pouch from cardboard box." If you actually "open up" the main entree, you can't use the heater (unless you like the feel of magnesium powder burning away the lining of your mouth, nose and throat).
